Who Are Cristiano Ronaldo’s Parents?

Cristiano Ronaldo’s parents are Maria Dolores dos Santos Viveiros Aveiro and José Dinis Aveiro. He was born in Funchal on February 5, 1985, the youngest of four, and grew up in the parish of Santo António.

The family had very little money. Dolores worked as a cook and a cleaner. José Dinis was a gardener for the local council.

Dolores Aveiro, his mother

Dolores Aveiro has told her own story in public, including the hardest part of it. She has said that when she became pregnant with Cristiano she wanted an abortion, because of the family’s poverty and her husband’s drinking, and that her doctor refused.

She let him leave home at 12 to join Sporting CP’s academy in Lisbon. In a 2021 interview she said that if football had not worked out, her son would have become a bricklayer.

José Dinis Aveiro, his father

José Dinis Aveiro worked part-time as the kit man at Andorinha, the amateur club where Cristiano first played, from the age of seven. He named his son partly after Ronald Reagan, his favourite actor.

He had served with the Portuguese Army in Angola during the Colonial War. He struggled with alcoholism afterwards and died in September 2005, when Cristiano was 20 and in his third season at Manchester United.

Cristiano has spoken about it several times. He does not drink alcohol.

Does Cristiano Ronaldo Have Siblings?

Yes. Cristiano Ronaldo has an older brother, Hugo, and two older sisters, Elma and Kátia.

All three have worked with him. Hugo has helped run the CR7 museum in Funchal. Elma has managed CR7 fashion shops. Kátia Aveiro is a singer and is the most active of the three on social media.

What Is Cristiano Ronaldo’s Family Background?

She studied ballet as a child and stopped when her family could no longer afford the lessons. At 17 she moved to England to work as an au pair and learn English.

She met Ronaldo in 2016 while working as a sales assistant at a Gucci shop in Madrid. Since 2022 she has starred in a Netflix series about her life, I Am Georgina.
